Ecofeminism and Feminism from the dawn of time....

Wikipedia states that the word Patriarchy means: Patriarchy is a social system in which males are the primary authority figures central to social organization, occupying roles of political leadership, moral authority, and control of property, and where fathers hold authority over women and children. It implies the institutions of male rule and privilege, and entails female subordination. Many patriarchal societies are also patrilineal, meaning that property and title are inherited by the male lineage.

Historically, patriarchy has manifested itself in the social, legal, political, and economic organization of a range of different cultures.

Patriarchy literally means "the rule of the father"[and comes from the Greek πατριάρχης (patriarkhēs), "father of a race" or "chief of a race, patriarch", which is a compound of πατριά (patria), "Historically, the term patriarchy was used to refer to autocratic rule by the male head of a family. However, in modern times, it more generally refers to social systems in which power is primarily held by adult men. lineage, descent"[ (from πατήρ - patēr, "father") and ἄρχω (arxō), "I rule".

The entire Western World is governed by Patriarchy.

Some scholars point to about six thousand years ago (4000 BCE), when the concept of fatherhood took root, as the beginning of the spread of patriarchy.

A prominent Greek general Meno, in the Platonic dialogue of the same name, sums up the prevailing sentiment in Classical Greece about the respective virtues of men and women. He says:

Let us take first the virtue of a man—he should know how to administer the state, and in the administration of it to benefit his friends and harm his enemies; and he must also be careful not to suffer harm himself. A woman's virtue, if you wish to know about that, may also be easily described: her duty is to order her house, and keep what is indoors, and obey her husband."[

All of the above crept into so called ‘civilized’ societies in a very insidious way. Women had no alternative but to either conform or die. The ‘Burning Times’ highlights this fact in particular when woman of any authority (midwives, land owners etc.) were burned at the stake and accused of witch craft.

The estimated amount of innocent women and children (and some men) killed during the Burning times, runs into Millions in Europe alone. This is still continuing today in some countries.

The eradication of ‘The Divine feminine principles’ not only effected females across the planet but also figured strongly in Mans dominance over Nature (Mother Nature) and the Planet (Gaia/Mother Earth)

All that is feminine was seen to be a commodity which could be bought, sold, raped and used to profit man kind.

Eco feminism draws the dots together to understand that our very earthly foundation itself is at the brink of destruction due to Mans personal greed.

Religion and politics went hand in hand during the entire process. Priestesses were not allowed authority in Church Hierarchies. The Old original Pagan, Goddess worshipping religions were said to be ‘evil’ and banned by the Patriarchs.

Even today, many feminists still are unable to see the direct link, and continue to support male dominated religions. In itself this can be damaging because we need to respect our own divine feminine principles as women and not relegate them to a secondary God invented by an old boy network. Which had the sole intention of domination and suppressing the ‘rights/role’ of females?

It’s quite easy to see the result of this all across the Planet – Little female children being forced to marry old men under the guise of tradition. Justified Misogyny abounds due to man made laws.

Only when women everywhere stand up and unite, saying “Enough, no more!” can we unite to make true progress.

Its obvious that The Divine Feminine spirit has awoken on Earth as we see the Global uprisings in action – ‘One Billion Rising’ and countless other collectives of women (and concerned men too) coming together to end the madness…..

Welcome to  'Ecofeminism & Craftivism' - the intentions of this Blog will be to generate awareness of issues that really matter today.
We will highlight the inbalance that we all need to understand, in order to break the patterns which have created them and look at solutions to bring about much needed change.

Womans Spirituality, along with Art and Crafts will be a central focus here. And of course the links which are important to The Divine Feminine understanding which highlight the abuse of Mother Earth, Mother Nature and all that is female....

The Crocheted Bicycle above, made by yours truly was part of a exhibition entitled 'Green Purple' (so named after the suffragette colours - the colour purple meant Dignity & the colour green symbolised Hope.)
The feminist Collective 'Riart Girls' created the event to highlight several issues - see flyer.....

The exhibition itself was a huge success, lasting for a week and highlighting many issues, with several guest speakers.
